Alfred Leu appointed as CEO of Generali Holding Vienna

  • Peter Thirring to resign as CEO of Generali Holding Vienna and Generali Versicherungen AG with effect from 31 December 2015
  • Jaime Anchustegui, head of EMEA Regional Office, will lead Generali Switzerland Holding in the interim-period

Trieste - Generali Group announces that Alfred Leu, currently CEO of Generali Switzerland Holding, has been appointed as CEO of Generali Holding Vienna and Generali Versicherungen AG as from the 1st January 2016. Peter Thirring will resign as CEO of both companies for personal reasons. Jaime Anchustegui, head of EMEA Regional Office, will lead the Generali Switzerland Holding in the interim-period.

 

Jaime Anchustegui, head of Generali Group’s EMEA Regional Office, said: “I am delighted that someone of the calibre of Alfred will be able to lead our business in Austria. He has achieved consistent success as CEO of the Generali Switzerland Holding and I believe that he has the right skills and experience to further expand our business in Austria. At the same time I would like to thank Peter for his outstanding contribution for the company. Under his leadership Generali was able to maintain successful results in Austria and further strengthen its market position. I wish him the best for his future endeavours.”

 

Alfred Leu will remain unchanged member of the Board of Directors of the Generali Switzerland Holding.

Alfred Leu (57) was appointed as CEO of Generali Switzerland Holding in 2005. Before, he was CEO at Generali General Insurance in Geneva and since 2002 Deputy CEO of Generali Holding Switzerland. In 1987 Alfred Leu began his career in the insurance sector working for Fortuna Lebens-Versicherungs-Gesellschaft and over the years assumed various managerial positions for different insurance companies. Leu graduated in Law at the University of Bern in 1987.

 

Peter Thirring (58) was appointed CEO of Generali Holding Vienna in 2013. Previously he was CEO of Generali Poistovna in Slovakia since 2005 and became a member of the board of Generali Holding Vienna in 2007. He then was appointed CFO in 2012. Thirring graduated in Law at the University of Vienna in 1981 and joined Generali in 1984.
