Cancel property insurance

You can cancel your property insurance in the following situations:

• When your policy expires. Please note that the period of notice is three months.
• When your premiums go up.
• After we pay out a claim. Please note that the period of notice is within 14 days of receiving payment.
• If the vehicle or vehicle keeper changes, or the licence plates are definitively returned.
• If you move abroad.

Notice of cancellation must be given in writing in order to be valid. We do not accept verbal notice of cancellation. The easiest way to let us know that you wish to cancel your insurance is by filling out this online form. Your notice of cancellation will then be forwarded to and assessed by the appropriate office. 

The cancellation of your property insurance will take effect provided:

• The reason for the termination is permitted,
• The period of notice for cancellation is observed,
• And we receive the notice of cancellation in good time. 

Please note that compliance with the period of notice is based on when the notice of cancellation is received, and not when it is sent. If you send notice of cancellation by post, you must remember to take public holidays into account. If we do not receive the notice of cancellation in good time, your policy will be automatically renewed for at least one year. 

Example: Your policy expires on 31 December 2025, and has a three-month period of notice. We must receive written notice of cancellation by 30 September 2025 at the latest. If we do not receive it until 1 October 2025, the cancellation will not apply until the subsequent year (i.e. as of 31 December 2026).

The pro rata reimbursement of the premiums you have paid to date depends on your reason for cancelling.

You will receive a pro rata reimbursement in the following cases: 

• If you move abroad. 
• If you change your vehicle or if the vehicle keeper changes.
• If your licence plates are definitively returned.
• After we pay out a regular claim (exceptions: claims during the first insurance year and total losses)

You will not receive any reimbursement in the following cases: 

• If you cancel due to an increase in premiums. 
• If the policy expires.
• If we have paid out for a claim that occurred during the first insurance year. 
• If we have paid out for a total loss.
